Publishers Printing Company, a publication printer and content distribution provider, purchased a new Hewlett-Packard (HP) 7500 five-color digital press for the Commercial Division and it was installed in the Shepherdsville plant the week of October 24. Representatives for Publishers Printing Company looked at several digital press manufacturers before deciding on the HP 7500.
"One of the reasons we went with this press is print quality," Dan Millsap, general manager Commercial Division, said about the choice in printer.
Millsap noted the presses ability to print on synthetic stocks and plastics, as well as regular coated and uncoated stock was an attractive capability for the HP 7500 along with it's speed, pms color capability, up-time and software tools that will allow the pressmen great control over quality. The HP 7500 press prints CMYK and one pms and the maximum sheet size is 13" x 19" and the maximum print area is 12.48" x 18.26".
Printing with the HP 7500 more closely resembles conventional sheetfed printing. Up time will be great due to the press not requiring as much maintenance. "The is no heat applied to the sheet, which will allow us to print on a wider variety of stocks, such as plastics, sythetic stocks, etc.," Bill Bisig, salesman for Commercial Division, said. "You can use more types of coatings on this type of press and maintain a high quality look that we couldn't offer previously. We can also print a 5 color on this press, which is something we couldn't offer before with our digital printing."
Pressmen will go through a training course to manage the HP 7500 press before it goes live, tentatively the week of November 28.
