Groupon is testing its Groupon VIP loyalty program, which offers customers first dibs on deals, exclusive offers from previous deal givers and simpler refunds at a cost of US$30 per year, Internet Retailer reported Feb. 17.
The program is being tested in Tampa, Florida, where participants can enjoy the program for free for three months.
LivingSocial last November launched its own program, Plus. The two resemble Amazon.com’s Prime loyalty plan, according to Greg Sterling, founder of Sterling Market Intelligence.
The program’s success will depend on the number of consumers it can draw in. Groupon should also be careful that its VIP offers do not degrade its offers, said Sterling.
