LOS ANGELES , February 15, 2012 () – Apple Inc. surpasses Samsung Electronics Co. to become the world's biggest smartphone vendor in Q4, fueled by its iPhone sales, the Taipei Times reported Feb. 15, citing Connecticut-based researcher Gartner Inc.

Nearly 25% of smartphones sold were iPhones, and Apple sold 35.5 million smartphones compared with Samsung's 34 million.
