LOS ANGELES , February 10, 2012 () – In an attempt to ensure better product quality and consumer safety, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is looking to set standards for alcoholic beverages in the country, Food Navigator Asia reported Feb. 9.

Last August, the FSSAI took over the responsibility of setting food standards in India. Now, they have set up a group to draw up benchmarks for alcoholic beverages.

According to an FSSAI official, the group consists of scientists, industry experts and beverage manufacture representatives. They are currently working on a draft of standards that should be ready by the end of March.
