Sales at Wal-Mart's Mexican and Central American units increased 13.1% year-over-year in January; same-store sales increased 4.7% in Mexico, 0.1% in Central America

LOS ANGELES , February 9, 2012 () – Sales at Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s Mexican and Central American units increased 13.1% year-over-year in January 2012, Reuters reported Feb. 8.

Same-store sales year-over-year during this period at Wal-Mart’s Mexican arm, Wal-Mart de Mexico, increased 4.7%, beating a forecasted growth of 4.2% provided by five analysts that had been surveyed by Reuters.

In Central America, same-store sales year-over-year increased 0.1%.

Wal-Mart de Mexico, known locally as Walmex, reported that, during January, it opened 11 new Mexican stores. By Feb. 8, the company reported that it had already opened two new retail locations.
