U.S. hotels increase gluten-free, dairy-free, macrobiotic food options; retailers sold US$8.4M in gluten-free products last year, according to research

LOS ANGELES , February 7, 2012 () – U.S. hotels have increased their gluten-free, dairy-free, macrobiotic menu items, the USA Today reported on Feb. 6.

A survey of 200-plus business travelers revealed that 10% wanted gluten-free or dairy-free menu options. Omni Hotels & Resorts features a gluten-free breakfast buffet section. Kimpton’s Hotel Palomar and Hotel Monaco offer gluten-free snacks in their minibars.

The Fairmont Hotels & Resorts offers a Lifestyle Cuisine Plus Menu, which features menu items for people with gluten allergies, macrobiotic diets, heart disease and diabetes.

According to Nielsen, sales of gluten-free products reached US$8.4 million last year.
