U.K. online e-cigarette retailers report significant increase in sales for the first month of 2012 compared to year-ago period, due in part to more places enforcing smoking bans, more smokers making commitment to improve health

MANCHESTER, England , February 3, 2012 (press release) – Online retailers such as EasyeCigarette.com who claim to have the largest online range in the UK, are reporting that their sales have increased significantly for the first month of 2012 compared to the same period last year.

The electronic cigarette, although not officially recognised as a quit smoking aid or a healthier alternative to smoking, is nevertheless being hailed by many people across the world as one of the best products available to solve the smoking addictions faced by thousands.

Further adding to their popularity is the fact that in most public places where the no smoking ban is in force, electronic cigarettes can still be used.

One spokesperson said, “We are seeing many smokers buy e cigarettes for themselves as they can be used anywhere and they don’t fall under the smoking ban in most places. This means that smokers can get their nicotine hit without having to huddle outside in the freezing cold in the winter months.”

Popularity of the product may also be linked to their celebrity status, as celebs such as Alan Titchmarsh, singer Matt Cardle and even June Brown (Dot Cotton) have been reported to use e-cigarettes.

Sheila Duffy, the chief executive of the anti-tobacco charity ASH Scotland, stated that they are “Interested in the potential that e-cigarettes could have to help people take the first steps away from a deadly tobacco habit. With e-cigarettes, however, there is no standardisation or regulation of the product, which concerns us. Many electronic cigarettes also look like cigarettes and, as a society, we should be moving away from giving the impression that smoking is desirable to protect young people from the harms of tobacco.”

However with many already investing in these products to help quit smoking and this figure looking set to rise year after year, concerns about the appearance is not a worry for many people.

“I think it is great we finally have this invention, a real way of helping people quit smoking and the fact it looks like a normal cigarette is a good thing as it fulfils the smoker’s physical habit of holding a cigarette which is part of the quitting process” said one health expert, “We can’t expect it in any other form, it's current appearance is what makes it work so well. It is a great step forward for anti smoking campaigns as there is finally a solid quit smoking tool on the market”

Despite conflicting opinions about the safety and effectiveness of the electronic cigarette and e liquid, these recent reports suggest that a growing number of smokers are turning to this range of nicotine delivery products in the hope that their health will improve or that it will act as the first step to becoming smoke free.
