– The government says Japan's industrial production rose 4 percent in December from November while the unemployment rate edged up to 4.6 percent.
The Economy and Trade Ministry says factory output rebounded from a decline in November, led by increased production of electronics, automobile and general machinery equipment.
A survey of manufacturers showed that they expect industrial output to increase 2.5 percent in January and another 1.2 percent in February.
The figures suggest that Japan's manufacturing sector is continuing to recover from the Thai flooding late last year and the March tsunami, both of which disrupted supply chains.
