Former Canadian National CEO, Hunter Harrison, urges company, Canadian Pacific to cooperate more to reduce bottlenecks, move goods more efficiently

LOS ANGELES , January 16, 2012 () – Former Canadian National Railway CEO Hunter Harrison wants two of Canada's largest railroads to increase their collaboration, Bloomberg reported Jan. 14, citing an article in the Globe and Mail.

Harrison urged the two rail majors to work together to reduce bottlenecks along their networks to move freight more efficiently as about a quarter of Canadian Pacific's network overlaps with Canadian National's.

The two companies had discussed cooperation previously but negotiations were inconclusive, Harrison told the Globe and Mail.

Harrison is investor William Ackman's choice to replace Fred Green as CEO of Canadian Pacific, a proposal that the company's board to which the company's board is not receptive.
