Murphy Plywood is expanding its mill in Rogue River, Oregon, with the addition of buildings covering a total of 60,000 sq. ft., according to a Jan. 12 report by Newswatch 12.
The plywood mill, formerly owned by Panel Products of Milwaukie, was acquired from the receivers by Eugene-based Murphy Co. in 2010 for US$3.6 million. Production restarted at the mill in December of that year.
The mill's owners say they are positioning the mill for a rally as markets recover from the current recession. The construction project includes a rail spur and three new buildings that will house further processing equipment to add value to the plywood.
Murphy Plywood, which employs about 130 workers, is undertaking the project in three phases and expects work to be finished on May 1.
