McDonald's to increase investment in China by 50%, plans to open 225-250 new stores in the nation this year

LOS ANGELES , January 12, 2012 () – McDonald’s Corp. will increase its investment in China by 50% this year, according to an e-mailed statement, Bloomberg reported on Jan. 11.

Yum! Brands Inc.’s KFC Corp. is currently the leader in the Chinese market, where it operates more than 3,200 stores. McDonald’s has approximately 1,400 stores in China but plans to open 225-250 new locations this year.

China is the world’s second-largest economy and is McDonald’s third-largest market.
