The Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond welcomed members of the Tullis Russell team to the Scottish Parliament to congratulate them on winning the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) Health and Safety Award.
Led by Health & Safety representative, Paul Reilly, eight members of the Unite Union were invited to The Scottish Parliament so the First Minister could pass on his congratulations in person. The STUC Award was presented earlier last year in recognition of the group’s contribution to working with the wider business to ensure the highest standards of safety at the firm’s Markinch site.
Steve Moss, Managing Director of the employee-owned firm commented: "It was testament to the importance of this award that Paul and the team were invited to meet the First Minister. Our colleagues have been a vital part of our company-wide focus on safeguarding the well-being of all people on our site.
"We continue to work hard to encourage a culture of health and safety through developing a network of Safety Action Teams which represent employees from all parts of our business. Health & Safety will always be a shared responsibility at Tullis Russell and the continued support of all our employees will be a key part of this."
