GRAIN VALLEY, Missouri , December 21, 2011 () – Reefer owners have only days left until a compliance extension application process closes in California.

The California Air Resources Board’s Transportation Refrigeration Unit regulation requires emissions upgrades and replacement of certain older reefer engines.

Reefer owners have until Dec. 31 to mail applications for an extension to CARB’s TRU regulation. The application must show the date the compliance equipment was ordered, and must document the supplier’s statement of estimated delivery and expected installation dates.

A recent amendment to CARB’s TRU rule allows CARB to extend compliance deadlines up to four months if installation of “needed emissions control technology” is delayed.

The rule allows for a seven-year gap between the current year and oldest reefer engines allowed. Beginning next year, 2004 and newer engines need to be replaced or retrofitted.

Applications are available here, and more information is available at CARB’s www.arb.ca.gov website or by calling CARB’s TRU help line at 1-888-878-2826 or 916-327-8737.
