Brazil's coffee crop may reach record 50 million bags next season, but record may not be realized as dry weather, frost affect crops, analyst says

LOS ANGELES , December 21, 2011 (Industry Intelligence) – Brazil’s next coffee crop may be 45 million to 50 million bags, according to agents surveyed by Cepea, Bloomberg reported Dec. 21.

Brazilian farmers may not harvest a larger crop than the record 48.5 million bags in the 2002-2003 season, Cepea analyst Margarete Boteon said in a Dec. 20 report.

Initial expectations of a possible record crop next season may not be realized as dry weather affected important growing regions until October and frost hit some crops between June and July, Boteon said in the report.

Output may be further limited by a lack of rainfall in some producing regions last month, Boteon added.
