Domtar Corporation (NYSE: UFS) (TSX: UFS) today announced that its Kingsport, Tennessee mill reached an important safety milestone in early December when it surpassed two million work-hours and almost three years without a lost-time injury.
“I’m proud of the entire Kingsport Mill team for reaching the two million-hour mark, and I’m just as proud of the culture of safety and caring that our employees live each and every day,” noted Mill Manager Charlie Floyd. “Our people understand better than anyone that no job needs to be done so quickly and so expeditiously that it can’t be done safely. They are trained to recognize and react with raised awareness to signs of frustration, fatigue, complacency, and rushing. But first and foremost, it’s about looking out for your fellow employee because we all have loved ones that want us home safe and sound after every shift.”
“This is a truly outstanding and shared accomplishment for our Kingsport Mill,” added Domtar Regional Vice-President Jack Bray. “Their safety performance is a model of consistency, and I look forward to seeing them hit the three million-hour mark, and beyond.”
