Cargill to build palm-oil crushing plant in Indonesia; nation's palm oil production approximately 25.2 million tons in 2011, expected to rise to 26.5 million tons in 2012

LOS ANGELES , December 19, 2011 (Industry Intelligence) – Cargill, the world’s largest agriculture company, will build a palm-oil crushing plant in South Sumatra, Indonesia, Bloomberg reported on Dec. 19.

Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of palm oil, yielding approximately 25.2 million tons in 2011. Palm oil production is expected to rise to 26.5 million tons in 2012.

Cargill currently owns 41,000 hectares of palm oil plantations in Sumatra and Borneo. Cargill’s four mills produce a capacity of 320 tons/hour. The new plant’s capacity has not been determined.
