Sainsbury's has today announced that its customers will save a whopping £66 million on their Christmas shopping by spending their Nectar points at its stores and online this Christmas. The retailer has also confirmed that as of 5th December 200,000 extra customers had redeemed their Nectar points compared to the same time last year and that it believes that over three million families will pay for at least part of their Christmas dinner using Nectar points.
Mike Coupe, Sainsbury's Group Commercial Director, said: "Christmas can be one of the most expensive times of the year and we know that many families struggle to keep within their budget. Many customers they tell us that they save up their Nectar points all year round and then use them all at once to help pay for Christmas. Nectar can be a real boost as it gives customers extra money that they didn't realise they had.
"Nectar, alongside Sainsbury's Brand Match, is a key part of our commitment to help customers to Live Well For Less so we are delighted that customers will choose to redeem their points with us so they can have a fantastic Christmas."
Last week Sainsbury's launched a major marketing campaign highlighting that over a million Nectar Card holders have over £50 worth of points waiting to be spent. The advert also showcases the tasty Christmas dinner customers can buy using the points.
As well as using Nectar Cards, Sainsbury's customers also benefit from its unique Brand Match initiative. Sainsbury's Brand Match guarantees that customers will not pay more for their branded grocery basket at Sainsbury's that day then they would at Tesco or Asda. Since the launch of Sainsbury's Brand Match in October over 30 million coupons have been issued to customers.
Nectar is the UK's largest loyalty scheme with over 18.5 million cardholders. Cardholders can gain points by shopping at a number of theUK's top stores and at over 500 online retailers. Since Nectar's launch in 2002 over £1.5 billion of rewards have been redeemed by Nectar card holders.
