PARIS , December 14, 2011 () – An email sent to the employees of France Soir says the once-mighty newspaper will no longer appear in print.

One of the iconic evening papers of the 1970s and '80s, France Soir has been particularly hard hit by the worldwide media crisis.

The daily is expected to stop publishing its paper edition in mid-to-late December, and France Soir officials said Wednesday that paper production already has ceased.

The email says that after a "violent commando raid" organized Tuesday by a labor union at the paper's Paris headquarters, it was not possible to put Wednesday's paper out.

The raid also prevented Tuesday's paper version from appearing.

France Soir will continue its website, but many journalists are expected to be fired.
