WASHINGTON , December 14, 2011 (press release) – American Forest & Paper Association President and CEO Donna Harman today issued the following statement regarding the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of the federal jobs package and the implications for boiler MACT legislation.

“We commend the House of Representatives on the bipartisan passage of this jobs package, which includes the EPA Regulatory Relief Act of 2011. By doing so, our elected representatives are helping to preserve American manufacturing jobs across a variety of industries.

“Although EPA recently released a new set of proposed rules for boiler MACT, several issues remain, including inadequate compliance time, legal uncertainty, and in some cases, achievability.

“Enactment of the EPA Regulatory Relief Act of 2011 is the best way to address these issues and will provide the certainty the employers across the country need to plan for necessary compliance investments. We now urge the Senate to support the jobs package to protect and preserve U.S. manufacturing jobs.”
