Dow Chemical spends US$1.8M on Q3 government lobbying, up 50% from year-ago period; company lobbying interests ranged from trade to security

NEW YORK , December 9, 2011 (Associated Press) – Dow Chemical spends $1.8 million in 3Q to lobby gov't on issues ranging from trade to security

The Dow Chemical Co. spent $1.8 million in the third quarter to lobby Congress and federal agencies on issues ranging from foreign trade to chemical and transportation security, according to a recent disclosure report.

The total compared with $1.2 million that the Midland, Mich., chemical manufacturer spent on lobbying in the year-ago quarter and $1.9 million it spent in the second quarter of this year.

Dow Chemical said it discussed several trade issues, including market access to China, India and Thailand and free trade agreements. Other topics included chemical and transportation security, tax issues, health care and pension reform proposals, energy efficiency and the Toxic Substances Control Act.

In addition to the House of Representatives and the Senate, Dow Chemical lobbied a number of agencies, including the departments of Commerce, Treasury, Labor and Health and Human Services, the U.S. Trade Representative and the White House, according to the Oct. 20 report filed with the House clerk's office.
