PRAGUE , December 5, 2011 (press release) – Miller Brands Ukraine, the branch of SABMiller plc, installed an e-scan, a new tool that analyses the taste stability of beer. E-scan has no analogs in the Ukraine and allows fast quality control at every production stage in order to provide maximum taste stability to the ready product during its shelf-life. The scan costs about 90 thousand euros.

"Beer is alive and that's why it gradually 'ages.' One of the main tasks of beer makers around the world is to provide so called taste stability, i.e. preserve fresh taste during its entire shelf-life," explains Liubov Scherbina, head of production lab «Miller Brands Ukraine». "There exist several ways to slow down beer ageing. Our company uses advanced technologies and the newest methods of analysis in order to keep product fresh naturally."

E-scan functioning is based on Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrography. It uses the unique antioxidant tolerance measuring technology (free radical formation speed) patented by the German company Bruker BioSpin. The EPR-spectrometer's readings allow a precise determination of when and at what production stage oxidation happens, which can later lead to changes in taste stability. Based on the test results, specialists can make corrections in technological processes in order to shut out the possibility of oxidation at each production stage.

Thanks to its efficiency, reliability and portability, Bruker BioSpin e-scan received wide recognition at the international market and SABMiller plants in different countries.
