Firefighters contain blaze at IP container plant in Newark, Ohio, after fire ignites in compactor

LOS ANGELES , December 2, 2011 () – Firefighters contained a blaze at International Paper Co.’s Newark, Ohio, container plant on Dec. 1 after its compactor caught on fire, the Newark Advocate reported on the same day.

The compactor had to be dismantled by crews to reach the fire, which was confined to the equipment, according to Newark Assistant Chief Tom O’Brien.

Firefighters also removed a piece of the ventilation shaft and worked on containing the fire from the roof.

According to the company website, the plant makes industrial packaging.
