NIKLASDORF, Austria , December 1, 2011 (press release) – Probably one of the most important innovations in the last years. B&B presented it’s new Niklakett Premium on BrauBeviale 2011 in Nuermberg - a high gloss label paper with a base weight of 70 gsm.

What is so special about Niklakett Premium?

With more than 35 % of gloss (method according to Lehmann) you can see an outstanding difference in brilliance compared to common label papers offered in the market.

But gloss is not the only parameter which makes a perfect label.

Although the substance has been reduced, the stability of the sheet is guaranteed – and therefore provides a high productivity in offset printing.

This was achieved by using a new mixture of fibers together with a new coating concept.

This combination delivers a high gloss product with excellent paper stability.

Offsetprinter set a new benchmark in printing gold and silver.

Labels printed in offset always had to compromise when it came to printing performance. With Niklakett Premium B&B succeeded in creating a label paper with 35% higher gloss compared to common high wet strength and alkali resistant label papers.

Gold and silver have always been a challenge for offset printers. With the new material new benchmarks can be achieved – the colors and the metallic effects appear much more lively.

Wet strength and alkali resistant label papers are “hightech“ products because there is a life after product usage.

This request doesn’t make life easy. For returnable applications the paper has to offer special properties because in the washing plant it needs to peel of within 120 seconds. But on the other hand it has to be absolutely alkali resistant at the same time.

This results in a conflict in requirements and offers only a small path for paper technology to move forward.

The challenge …

The coating and the mixture of fibers have to perform an excellent alkali penetration and a high alkali resistance. These contradictory requirements leave limited options.

In addition label material need to guarantee a reduced environmental impact and cost-efficiency.

B&B has succeeded in solving the task and is convinced that this paper will become the new benchmark for all beverage manufactures.
