PROSALES magazine announced today that three construction supply dealers won grand prizes in its 2011 PROSALES Excellence Awards – the most prestigious awards program in the construction supply industry – while four dealers and a building material distributor received merit awards.
The PROSALES Excellence Awards honor outstanding achievements in construction supply in showroom design, facility design, technology, marketing and customer service, advertising, and websites. The awards program celebrates business leaders whose creativity and ingenuity have not only improved and reinvigorated their own companies, but also set new benchmarks for service in the entire industry.
The 2011 Excellence Awards winners, locations and categories are:
· Raymond Building Supply, North Fort Myers, FL / Technology
· TW Perry, Gaithersburg, MD / Marketing
· Sanford & Hawley, Unionville, CT / Technology
Receiving Merit Awards are:
· Stine Lumber, Sulphur, LA / Marketing
· Parksite, Batavia, IL / Technology
· Mountain Lumber, Boone, NC / Advertising
· Parr Lumber, Hillsboro, OR / Marketing
· Allen & Allen, San Antonio, TX / Advertising
Dealers and distributors competed in six different categories: Best Advertisement, Best Marketing Campaign, Best Website, Best Showroom, Best Facility Design, and Best Use of Technology. A panel of four independent judges then decided which entries, regardless of the category, achieved excellence and which other entries had shown enough to be worthy of merit.
The four judges picking the winners were: Chris Rader, PROSALES columnist and president, Rader Solutions, Lafayette, LA; Rick Davis, PROSALES columnist and president, Building Leaders, Chicago; Bill Hayward, president, Hayward Lumber, Monterey, CA; and Holly Ruether, marketing director and showroom manager, Mathew Hall Lumber, St. Cloud, MN.
“What’s particularly impressive about the 2011 PROSALES Excellence Award winners is how they found ways to attract new business and improve their operations despite having to struggle through the worst housing market in decades,” said Craig Webb, editor, PROSALES magazine. “Raymond Building Supply reorganized the way it handles paperwork, and in the process saved tens of thousands of dollars while uncovering potential new projects on which to bid. TW Perry took on the daunting task of organizing a home show that brought to one place contractors, potential homeowners, product manufacturers, banks, and community groups. And Sanford & Hawley’s complete technology overhaul has resulted in better service, happier customers, less waste, and fewer operational mistakes.”
As for the Merit Award winners, Stine was honored for a multimedia Father’s Day campaign in which customers were invited to write about their dads—and in the process help Stine collect tens of thousands of customer e-mail addresses. Parr enjoyed similar success attracting do-it-yourself customers with a multimedia campaign that invited people to win prizes by going on a road trip.
Mountain Lumber built on its reputation as a leader in the green construction movement by creating print ads showing its many products produced in its home state of North Carolina or within a few hundred miles of its store. Allen & Allen used TV ads instead, teaming up with four longtime manufacturers to create spots that recognized the company’s 80th anniversary while announcing special deals for the vendors’ products.
Parksite was the only distributor to win a prize this year. Its Merit Award came in honor of a new inventory management system it incorporated that increased productivity by 34% with 75% higher accuracy.
Stories about each winning entry are featured in the just-released November/December edition of PROSALES. The three Grand Prize winners also will receive a $500 check to give to the charity of their choice, while the five Merit Award winners will get $150 checks.
