Manjushree Technopack spending US$38M to establish two PET packaging plants in Bidadi and Harohalli, India, will focus on food, beverage, liquor and pharmaceutical sectors

LOS ANGELES , November 17, 2011 (Industry Intelligence) – Manjushree Technopack Ltd. will invest US$38 million to set up two polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging plants just outside Bangalore, India, reported Plastics News on Nov. 16.

The new plants, to be located in industrial areas of Bidadi and Harohalli, will produce PET containers primarily for the food and beverage industry, as well as for liquors and pharmaceuticals.

The proposed Bidadi plant will be near a major beverage customer in order to lower logistical costs.

It was determined that there wasn’t any room for expansion at Manjushree Technopack’s two existing plants, both of which are in the Bommasandra industrial area outside Bangalore, said Vimal Kedia, the company’s managing director, Plastics News reported.

Production of preforms will be shifted to the new Bidadi site, where all future PET preform business and projects will be undertaken, he said.

Manjushree Technopack looks to expand its sales both domestically and in international markets. Currently, just 8% of the company’s turnover comes from exports to countries such as the U.S., Australia, Africa, the Gulf, Malaysia and Maldives, said Kedia, reported Plastics News.

Manjushree Technopack is a rigid plastic packaging company based in Bangalore, India.

Among its customers are Cadbury PLC, Kraft Foods Inc., Nestle SA, Unilever NV, Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo Inc., Tata Global Beverages, ITC Ltd., and Rhodes Food Group.

In pharmaceuticals, it supplies such companies as Micro Labs Ltd., the Himalayan Drug Co., TTK Group for Woodwords Gripe Water, AstraZeneca PLC and Anglo-French Drugs, Plastics News reported.
