Danish food packaging producer Faerch Plast AS plans by next summer to open a new plant in Durham, England, and is already considering the possibility for the site’s future expansion, reported Plastics News on Nov. 14.
The new operation in Durham, for which 14,000 square meters (150,696 square feet) of factory space has so far been acquired, will mostly produce trays for ready meals and fresh meat, said Lars Gade Hansen, CEO of Faerch.
The investment, which the company would not provide a number for except to say that it is “significant,” is in keeping with Faerch’s long-term strategy of being closer to its customers, said Hansen, Plastic News reported.
The company also has purchased 30,000 square meters of industrial land adjacent to the plant in Durham for “possible further expansion as demand increases,” he said.
The new plant is part of Faerch’s ongoing strategy to reduce order lead times and provide better customer services, as well as to shrink its environmental footprint and secure costs, the company said, reported Plastics News.
