RICHMOND, Virginia , November 14, 2011 (press release) – The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia ruled in favor of MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV) on August 18, 2011, and found that its U.S. patents for a fragrance dispensing system with its NoC® dip tube (patent number 7,718,132 and 7,722,819) are valid and enforceable. MWV has held exclusive U.S. patents on this technology since May 2010, and is currently involved in further litigation regarding alleged infringements of these patents in the U.S. by competitors Rexam and Valois.

“We’re pleased the courts agreed that our longstanding patents on NoC are valid and enforceable, and with this ruling we are hopeful that the court will also find in our favor regarding the infringement and willfulness claims against Rexam and Valois,” said Thomas Jonas, president, MWV Beauty & Personal Care Division. “This judgment validates MWV’s ownership of the intellectual property, and is further proof that MWV has been and will continue to be a company that provides innovative solutions for the needs of our fragrance and cosmetics customers worldwide.”

MWV’s NoC® dip tube is the world's first invisible dip tube for luxury fragrances. Introduced in 2006, the NoC® dip tube is manufactured globally to support prestige fragrance brands around the world. The dip tube uses light-refractive technology so that the dip tube virtually disappears when it comes in contact with a liquid fragrance or perfume.
