SAO PAULO , November 11, 2011 (press release) – Dow Brazil was recognized as one of the most sustainable companies in the country by the Exame magazine, part of the Abril publishing group. The company was one of the 20 corporate role models highlighted by a wide-range survey on socially-responsible environmental practices in processes, products and projects.

"Dow is proud of this recognition, which confirms our commitment to promoting a more sustainable chemical company that is constantly concerned with reducing its environmental impact and is able to benefit the complete value chain by developing innovative solutions to address the most pressing needs our society is facing today," Pedro Suarez, President of Dow Latin America, states.

Dow Brazil submitted a new high-performance, recyclable packaging solution to the 2011 Exame Sustainability Guide. It's called Stand-up Pouch (SUP), made of 100% polyethylene, for a flexible packaging that can be easily recycled, since it's a mono-material solution. This is the result of a year-long research and the constant investments Dow has been making on research and development to create more sustainable solutions. The 100% polyethylene Stand-up Pouch will soon hit the shelves of grocery stores all over Brazil.

Integrity, respecting people, and protecting the environment are Dow values that reflect the company's commitment with sustainability. That is why the company follows strict standards to assure safe operations and a beneficial relationship with all stakeholders, from clients to government organizations, as well as suppliers and the community where it operates. For example, Dow Brazil has over 20 social and environmental programs that currently assist neighboring communities in Brazil.

The Exame Sustainability Guide is an annual publication that highlights companies according to their corporate social responsibility programs, representing one of the largest studies on the field being performed in Brazil.
