November 10, 2011
– Coca-Cola Brasil will roll out a 500-ml crushable PlantBottle for its local water brand Crystal during the sustainability-oriented music and arts festival SWU, which will take place in Paulinia, Sao Paulo, on Nov. 12, 13 and 14.
According to a Nov. 10 company press release, Crystal Eco will be launched nationwide later in January.
The crushable PlantBottle uses 20% less polyethylene terephthalate than previous containers and up to 30% sugarcane-based PET. Coca-Cola Brasil is asking consumers to crush the used container to reduce the packaging volume by 37% and, consequently, facilitate its recycling.
Coca-Cola’s PlantBottle was first introduced in Japan, in 2009, for the company’s local water brand I-Lohas. In 2010, it was launched in Latin America, Mexico, Ecuador and the U.S.
