LUDWIGSHAFEN, Germany , November 10, 2011 (press release) – People’s personal well-being can be greatly affected by the condition of their skin. So, more and more consumers, especially those with sensitive skin, are looking for nourishing and soothing products. To help manufacturers meet these demands, BASF’s Care Chemicals division has launched Cetiol ® RLF, its first light emollient produced via an enzymatic process. The product is solely derived from renewable feedstocks, proven to be mild on sensitive skin, and kind on the environment.

Over the last five years, products with marketing claims relating to sensitive skin and environmental benefits have significantly increased their share in the personal care market. Formulations that contain Cetiol® RLF are ideally suited for products with such claims: it has a light texture, absorbs quickly and leaves the skin feeling smooth.

Proven mildness for sensitive skin

The sensorial properties of a cosmetic product are influenced by the spreading properties of emollients. Cetiol® RLF is a fast-spreading emollient that gives products a pleasant and light skin feel. The emollient has a crystal-clear appearance and a light natural odor, which makes it an ideal component in a modern skin care formulation. As such, it is suitable for use in a wide variety of mild products. Dermatological tests carried out on a panel of people with sensitive skin confirmed that it does not even irritate sensitive skin after tape stripping and under exaggerated test conditions. Cetiol® RLF is suitable for babies, children and adults with sensitive skin, even for those with atopic skin.

High quality based on natural origin

The new emollient is both suitable for sensitive skin and also ideal for products claiming a high content of ingredients of natural origin. Cetiol® RLF is made from 100-percent natural renewable feedstock and is catalyzed with enzymes: This new process helps to reduce emissions while ensuring high quality. Additionally, the emollient is approved by Ecocert, certified by NaTrue and by the National Products Association (NPA) and recommended for concepts according to BDIH and COSMOS.

“Cetiol® RLF helps to satisfy the needs of consumers with both sensitive skin and the desire for products of natural origin”, says Fabio Triggiani , Marketing Personal Care. “Its proven mildness, along with its hydrating effect and the light skin-feel, can enhance people’s sense of well-being.”
