LOS ANGELES , October 31, 2011 () – Pernod Ricard SA is planning to launch next year a blend of rum and tequila under its Malibu brand, Dow Jones Newswires reported Oct. 28.

Pernod is hoping that the move will spearhead a new category for the spirits and wine company. Pernod Ricard currently sells more than 3 million cases a year of Malibu coconut rum in various flavors. The latest brand comes amid a popular industry trend of blending alcohol brands and flavors.

Pernod Ricard intends to internationally ship Malibu Red in February and have the product available on retail shelves by March.
