Russia's grain harvest totals 95 million tonnes as of Oct. 25, Agriculture Ministry says; wheat harvest reaches 58.9 million tonnes from 98% of planted area; corn harvest reaches 3.5 million tonnes from 49% of sown area

LOS ANGELES , October 25, 2011 () – Russia’s grain harvest reached 95 million tonnes on Oct. 25, as farmers reaped grain on 41.1 million hectares (101.6 million acres), or 96% of the planted area, the Agriculture Ministry said in an e-mailed statement, Bloomberg reported the same day.

The wheat harvest totaled 58.9 million tonnes from 24.7 million hectares, or 98% of the planted area. Last year the country harvested 42.9 million tonnes of wheat as a drought hurt fields.

The barley crop totaled 17.6 million tonnes from 99% of the sown area.

Rice has been harvested on 85% of the planted area, totaling 836,000 tonnes. Forty-nine percent of corn’s planted area has been harvested, totaling 3.5 million tonnes.

Winter wheat has been planted on 14.9 million hectares, or 91% of the intended area, the ministry said.
