LOS ANGELES , October 25, 2011 () – German blockboard manufacturer SWL Holzplatten plans to expand production capacity at its headquarters in Langenberg, Westphalia, according to a report by German industry news service Euwid.

Under the plan, SWL will no longer manufacture blockboard at the plant, but will develop the facility into a press center for finising the boards. Installation is scheduled to begin within weeks.

SWL has purchased machinery for the project including two presses purchased from the bankruptcy estate of thin chipboard and blockboard manufacturer Wilhelm Mende.

The company has not revealed the size of the capacity expansion, but has purchased presses and machinery from Mende for producing core layers with an estimated capacity of 50,000 m³/year. SWL has further coreboard production operations in Schmerlecke and manufactures veneer, plywood and small LVL in Piatra Neamt.
