Jordan Forest Products of Mount Gilead, North Carolina, plans to close Barnesville, Georgia, lumber mill during November and December; 91 workers affected

LOS ANGELES , October 24, 2011 (Forestweb) – Jordan Forest Products LLC of Mount Gilead, North Carolina, will close its Barnesville, Georgia, lumber mill during November and December, according to a report by The Telegraph.

The company's president Robert Jordan said the plant's 91 workers were notified of the curtailment on Tuesday last week. Jordan said the mill would reopen on Jan. 2, when all employees would be recalled, and that workers would receive unemployment assistance during the curtailment.

Jordan Forest Products has four plants in North Carolina. The company purchased the Barnesville operation from Weyerhaeuser in 2004.

Robert Jordan said the downtime was being taken because of poor market conditions, and would be used to service equipment. He added that the company has no plans to curtail production at other plants.
