St. Louis-based Landshire recalling 1,751 cases of Nike All-American pre-packaged sandwiches due to potential listeria contamination

RALEIGH, North Carolina , October 21, 2011 (press release) – A Missouri company is voluntarily recalling 1,751 cases of the Nike All-American pre-packaged sandwich because of potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Landshire Inc. of St. Louis is recalling Nike All-American sandwiches weighing 7.25 ounces with a UPC code of 097488017415. The lot number is 112376 and is printed in black ink on the side or back of the package. The sandwiches were distributed nationwide at supermarkets.

The recall does not apply to other products or code dates.

The company launched the recall after a routine sample collected by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

No illnesses have been reported to date. Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

Consumers who have purchased the Nike All-American sandwich with the code date above should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
