L’Oreal Malaysia has confirmed that its hair dye products don’t contain o-aminophenol, a chemical that will be banned in all hair dyes in Malaysia beginning Jan. 3, 2012, the Menara Star reported Oct. 20.
The Asian Cosmetic Committed decided to ban the chemical during a meeting last June because there was a lack of safety data.
“We wish to confirm that our products do not contain this ingredient and are therefore in compliance with the new ruling,” L’Oreal said in a statement.
The National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau (BPFK) has listed one of L’Oreal’s products as containing the chemical, but the company said it currently submitting an amended formula to the bureau.
Companies that manufacture hair dyes with the chemical will be given a grace period to clear their stock, the Menara Star reported.
