The European Commission (EC) is endorsing the extension of a ban on selected Egyptian seeds and beans until March 2012 amid continued concerns over last spring’s E.coli crisis, FoodProductionDaily.com reported Oct. 19.
The ban on these imports was set to expire on Oct. 31. However, the EC is ignoring calls from Egyptian producers to lift the ban after an unsatisfactory audit of that country’s producers.
The ban includes such items as rocket sprouts, soya bean sprouts, dried leguminous vegetables, fenugreek seeds, soya beans, mustard seeds and sprouts of leguminous vegetables.
