Bemis subsidiary Curwood to close tape plant in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, around Dec. 31, says significant investment necessary for it to remain competitive; 23 jobs to be affected

LOS ANGELES , October 17, 2011 () – Bemis Co. Inc. subsidiary Curwood Inc. filed a notice on Oct. 12 to shut down its tape plant in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Plastics News reported Oct. 14.

According to spokeswoman Kristi Pavletich, the plant, where sewing thread and pulling tapes were made, needed major investments to stay competitive. Bemis decided against those investments.

The closure is expected to occur around Dec. 31, affecting 23 workers.

The company is currently looking for options for the property, and says it will offer outplacement services to its affected employees.
