LOS ANGELES , October 13, 2011 () – In an attempt to improve the national food safety system, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has entered into a cooperative interagency agreement, FoodProductionDaily.com reported Oct. 12.

The FDA will work alongside the Association of Food & Drug Officials (AFDO) under the Alliance for Advancing a National Integrated Food Safety Cooperative Agreement Program.

The aim of the alliance is to apply long-term improvements to the national food safety system through interagency collaboration and new surveillance and protection programs for manufactured foods.

The alliance would also provide assistance on legislation.
