NORFOLK, Virginia , October 12, 2011 (press release) – Virginia: Dominion matching up to $2M for EnergyShare heating assistance program

Dominion Virginia Power says it will donate up to $2 million in matching funds for its program aimed at helping customers keep their homes heated this winter.

The energy company, which is part of Dominion Resources Inc., announced the contribution to its EnergyShare program on Wednesday in Norfolk.

It's in addition to a $2 million donation Dominion made in June to its cooling assistance program.

EnergyShare is a program of last resort for the elderly, the ill and anyone facing financial hardships from unemployment or family crisis and needing help paying heating or cooling bills.

Dominion says the year-round program is in its 30th year and has raised $52 million and helped a half-million people. Gov. Bob McDonnell last month officially honored the 30th anniversary of the program with a state certificate of recognition.
