MOSCOW , September 22, 2011 (press release) – SCA, Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget, one of the world’s leading producers of hygiene products opened its new line at the Veniov Personal Care Factory. The new line produces TENA diapers for adults necessary for incontinence care. Ingolf Braun, General Manager, SCA Retail, Russia & CIS, SCA Health Care, Russia, Matti Hirvi, Regional Director, SCA Health Care, Region East and Andrey Kudryashov, the Plant Manager, led the ceremony.

The new production line was opened under the framework of the SCA long-term investment project of creating in Russia the local production of high quality Hygiene Products like Tissue Paper, Baby Diapers and Incontinence care products. The agreement to build the Veniov Personal Care factory was signed between SCA and the Tula Region administration during the Second Tula Economic Forum in 2007. In 2010 the Factory started producing Libero baby diapers.

Currently 205 employees work at the Factory. In a long-term perspective it is planned to employ 250 people. “The establishing of this big modern production facility in Veniov where state-of-the art technologies and progressive ecological production methods are used makes a huge contribution to the social and economic development of Veniov as well as the Tula Region overall. We are not talking only about new jobs but also about new quality of life for the Veniov citizens as well as people from other parts of the Tula Region. Therefore, the Veniov administration offers full support to SCA in fulfilling its plans”, - commented Igor Shiryaev, the Head of the Veniov District.

“TENA is a global leader in the incontinence product market. In Russia this brand also has the leading positions in various product categories, - says Andrey Kudryashov, plant manager in Veniov. – The first TENA production line has started to manufacture the classical absorbing products for people with incontinence. Incontinence is a condition which is quite common; however, its prevalence increases with age. The classical TENA products are currently of the major demand in the Russian market, as the number of elderly people is growing; moreover the diseases that go along with incontinence also grow. In a long run we plan to expand the assortment and to increase the volumes according to the consumers’ demands, including the premium products”.

The new SCA Veniov personal-care factory is the largest industrial site in the Veniov Region and also includes an SCA-owned International Distribution Center. Within SCA, the manufacturing of personal-care products is a clean, low-energy consumption process. To further minimize the environmental impact, the latest technologies and modern treatment facilities are used at the factory. Only licensed companies are used for waste disposal.

The Veniov factory construction started at the end of 2008. While choosing the location, several factors were taken into consideration: proximity to the main product markets as well as developed infrastructure and the availability of a qualified workforce. The Tula Region offers a good combination of these factors.

The investments of the first phrase amount to approximately EUR 85 million.

The Tula Administration has been providing its support during the entire time of the investment project realization.

SCA not only produces the personal care products but also conducts research and educational work together with the doctors and hygiene specialists. The company supports INCO consulting rooms – the care centers where people with incontinence problems can turn to for help and professional consultation. As a socially responsible company SCA makes product donations to nursing homes and other organizations.
