The new owner of the former NewPage paper mill in Kimberly, Wisconsin, has started auctioning off the building’s contents, but those offerings did not include the site's two paper machines, Fox 11 News in Green Bay, Wis., reported Oct. 3.
The mill was purchased last June by metal scrap dealer American Iron and Metal Demolition (AIM). The company, however, does not have specific plans for the site and said it is open to options. While it is unlikely that the site will produce paper, the exclusion of the paper machines in the auction suggests that option is still possible, Fox 11 News reported.
AIM’s Jeff McGlin said options include warehouse service, support to paper mills, rewinding or cutting cores.
The mill was previously run by NewPage, which closed the site in 2008 and affected hundreds of jobs.
Roughly 200 people, such as equipment brokers, vendors, business owners and representatives from other paper mills, came to survey what was inside, according to McGlin.
