West Fraser's Oct. 1 NBSK pulp price in North America drops by US$20/tonne, to US$950/tonne

LOS ANGELES , September 29, 2011 () – West Fraser Timber Co. has told customers it will drop its Oct. 1 northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp list price in North America by US$20 per tonne, to $950/tonne.

Canfor Pulp LP led the plan on Sept. 26. Customers began reporting yesterday that Domtar Corp. and West Fraser had followed. Customers also named other, smaller, NBSK suppliers that they said told them of plans to go down $20/tonne and/or to “be competitive.” As one customer put it, "Everyone will follow."

West Fraser has a combined pulp and paper capacity of 1.1 million tonnes/year, including NBSK and bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP).
