Domtar Corp. has been in negotiations with village officials and an unnamed developer over the sale of a portion of its Port Edwards, Wisconsin, mill property that was closed in 2008, according to a local planner, the Wausau Daily Herald reported on Sept. 22.
A planner with Madison, Wisconsin-based Vandewalle & Associates confirmed the negotiations were over the north end of the Domtar property.
Domtar spokesman Craig Timm said that the company is looking at all shuttered facilities, but did not comment on the discussions regarding the Port Edwards site.
Village and company officials also declined to comment on the negotiations, the Wausau Daily Herald reported.According to a Vandewalle & Associates community planning report created for Port Edwards, the planning company predicts the agreement would bring in US$150,000 in annual tax revenue and US$10 million in new investments for the village in addition to five new jobs.
