Family Dollar names grocery industry veteran Trey Johnson to newly created position of Senior VP, Food; company says move is aimed toward enhancing its food business

MATTHEWS, North Carolina , September 20, 2011 (Family Dollar) –
Family Dollar Stores, Inc. FDO +1.08% today announced that it has named Trey Johnson to the newly created position of Senior Vice President -- Food. Mr. Johnson will report to Dorlisa Flur, Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer.

"Creating an appealing mix of fun and functional merchandise is critical to our mission of being a more compelling place to shop," said Ms. Flur. "Through Trey's extensive grocery experience, leadership and strategic vision, we intend to further enhance our food business, drive trips and increase customer loyalty in an effort to grow our overall market share."

Mr. Johnson comes to Family Dollar from Sears Holdings where he created a limited assortment food concept for K-Mart. Mr. Johnson also led the development of Wal-Mart's Marketside format as its Chief Merchandising Officer. His extensive grocery experience includes VP and SVP leadership roles with SuperValu, Albertsons, and American Food Stores. Mr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
