Stockholm, Sweden-based beer and liquor exporter Galatea Spirits AB is launching its new Good Ol’ Sailor brand vodka in a recyclable polyethylene terephthalate bottle with a full-body shrink sleeve made from an Eastman Chemical Co. copolyester resin, Packaging Europe reported Sept. 12.
Packaging Europe reported that Galatea wanted packaging that met its sustainability aims and offered differentiation.
Galatea commissioned U.K.-based shrink sleeve producer CCL Label Decorative Sleeves to meet this challenge. CCL selected Embrace LV, a copolyester resin for shrink films from Eastman, because it can be heated at lower temperatures while providing a versatile shrink curve, Packaging Europe reported.
Packaging Europe reported that CCL selected Embrace LV because it met the producer’s need for a high level of print definition, and allowed the producer the ability to incorporate 360-degree designs—ideal for Galatea, which had commissioned a well-known Swedish tattoo artist to design a sailor-themed, 360-degree, neck-to-base tattoo graphic with vivid colors.
