RockTenn Co., will shutter its Bloomington, Illinois, sheet plant around Oct. 30, WJBC reported Sept. 7, citing a letter sent to Bloomington Mayor Steve Stockton by Doug Cromer, asset optimization team project leader for the company.
It is not clear how many jobs will be lost as a result of the plant’s closing, WJBC reported. Cromer directed questions to a company spokeswoman, and a union spokesman was not available for comment, according to WJBC.
The letter to the mayor’s office also noted that the union had no bumping rights because the whole facility will be shut down.
The plant was one acquired when Georgia-based RockTenn bought Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. earlier this year in a US$3.5 billion deal.
The letter to Stockton gave no reason for the closure, but RockTenn has announced at least four other U.S. plant closures this year, the news source noted.
