Amcor Flexibles Europe & Americas (AFEA), a global supplier of innovative packaging solutions, has pioneered a new supply chain solution for the management of the fresh produce flexibles packaging used by Asda, a subsidiary of the American retail giant Walmart.
25 August, 2011: The innovative new system saves time and money as it enables the supply chain to operate in real time and beyond the restrictions imposed by normal office hours. It is the result of a great partnership between Amcor and International Produce Limited (IPL), the biggest single importer of produce in the UK today.
“IPL recognises the importance of fully understanding it's supply chain and the development of this system in conjunction with Amcor will help to further enhance this model along with providing our business with real time data. I am pleased to see this come to fruition,” says IPL Purchasing Manager Darren Surry.
“We are delighted with the new system as it now means that all the IPL top fruit packers across Europe have 24\7 visibility of the flexible packaging stocks,” says Martin Dallas, AFEA Marketing Manager – Produce & Bakery. “And, with our extensive network of sites across Europe, we can ensure the supply chain is serviced with continental production and local hubs”.
AFEA, already supplies the bags for the Asda UK apple season and the flexibility of this new supply chain approach has enabled the company to expand into the European top fruit season that will commence later this year.
