Australian building products maker Bondor opens prototype energy-efficient InsulLiving Home in Brisbane using new insulated panels for 'quicker, greener' construction

LOS ANGELES , September 1, 2011 (Industry Intelligence) – Australian building products company Bondor on Tuesday officially opened a prototype home in Burpengary, Brisbane, that uses InsulWall insulated panels under development for five years and SolarSpan insulated products to create a quick-build, energy-efficient home, Architecture & Design reported Aug. 31.

From completed slab to lock-up, building time is estimated at 10 days or less and 34% faster than usual. The insulated wall panels are rated 8 Stars for energy efficiency.

InsulWall exceeds requirements for thermal performance, said Bondor general manager Geoff Marsdon. Use of the panels means lower use of building materials, reduced transportation, and lower carbon footprint during construction, Architecture & Design reported

The modular nature of InsulWall allows easy additions, or deconstruction and recycling of walls and roof, Marsdon said. The home is “quicker, leaner, smarter and greener,” said Bondor.

The Queensland University of Technology will work with Bondor, a unit of Brisbane-based Metecno Pty. Ltd., to study the home under occupancy conditions, Architecture & Design reported.

Bondor worked with Melbourne-based Bluescope Steel Ltd. and Clayton, Victoria-based Dulux Acratex for five years to develop the InsulWall. During 2011, Bondor was awarded an AU$50,000 Queensland Government Proof of Concept Fund for the house project.
