LOS ANGELES , August 29, 2011 () – Norbord Ltd.’s MDF and particleboard plant in Cowie, Scotland, has been asessed by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) as achieving a poor compliance rating in 2010.

SEPA, which released its findings on Aug. 26, said the plant had a number of issues with the operation of its waste water treatment plant, resulting in a significant number of breaches to permitted emission limits.

SEPA also noted that a number of minor breaches to permitted air emission limits had occurred, but said none had resulted in an adverse impact on the environment.

The agency noted other minor non-conformances on issues including the plant’s monitoring program, condition and operation of the plant and incident reporting.

SEPA’s report notes that Norbord has developed a number of improvement plans to address the areas highlighted during inspections, and this is expected to result in a better performance classification this year.

The company’s Morayhill, Inverness, OSB plant achieved a ‘broadly compliant’ assessment band.
